Abstract

Effective communication is a key factor in supporting the success of military operations, particularly for joint operations conducted by the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) in remote areas with limited network infrastructure. To address this need, this study presents the design of a tactical communication system based on a microcontroller that is capable of transmitting both text and voice messages without relying on GSM or internet networks. The system is designed using the ESP32 microcontroller as the main control unit and the LoRa SX1278 module as a long-range wireless communication medium. It is equipped with a keypad for text input, an LCD for message display, as well as a microphone and DFPlayer Mini for recording and playback of voice messages. All components are integrated and configured to operate independently in the field using a battery power source. This study resulted in a system design for two-way communication that is simple, portable, and energy-efficient. The proposed system can serve as an alternative tactical communication tool to support TNI AL field operations. It is expected to form the basis for future development into a functional prototype and field testing in real operational scenarios.
